Gateway to the Digital World Israel today

Many job seekers lack basic digital skills, which are necessary in the new era - and even more so since the outbreak of the corona crisis. An appellant resident who was fired from his job and now owns a delivery company: "It is clear to me that I could not have run the new business without what I learned in the course"

In recent years, the labor market has undergone significant processes of change, which have accelerated since the outbreak of the corona crisis, the most significant of which is probably the digitization process.

Today, almost every job in the job market requires a degree of orientation in the digital space.

"As part of this process, many professions will disappear or change significantly in the coming years," say the employment service, emphasizing that "we do not know clearly which of the professions, but it is clear that in the new labor market every worker will need a set of skills without which it will be very difficult to integrate." The main ones are digital skills. "

Data from the Employment Service in recent years, and certainly since the outbreak of the crisis, show that many job seekers lack basic digital skills and the greater the gap the harder it is to return to work.

Thus, even before the crisis and even more so since it erupted, the employment service offers a series of courses, workshops and trainings aimed at acquiring and strengthening digital skills.

As part of a collaboration with the national project "Digital Israel", Microsoft and the "Tapuach" association (which specializes in creating, managing and operating technology programs in national retirement, which combine professional training), the employment service offers courses to strengthen the digital skills of job seekers, basic and advanced. The basic course, which consists of 15 three-hour sessions, is intended for job seekers without digital qualifications and provides basic digital skills and soft skills for the labor market. The course includes a basic knowledge of common computer applications, email use and web browsing, and later develops work skills in Word, Google Drive, Excel, Outlook and Power Point.

The orientation of the skills acquisition is for employment needs such as job search and work in an electronic environment, resume writing, use of presentations in interviews and more.

The transfer of the courses to online use has enabled the expansion of participation from 61 localities in 2019 to 170 in 2020 and the doubling of the proportion of participants from Arab society, which is facing a more digital divide, from 10 percent to 20 percent.

One of the graduates of the course is Yosri Abu Halal, 39, from Arara, who was fired from his job as a warehouse worker during the Corona crisis and now owns a shipping company.

"I'm really proud of myself for this move," he says, "a few months have passed since the course and today I have a delivery business that includes 19 trucks. I won tenders from large entities for which I make the deliveries. In my work, I use everything I learned in the course - sending emails, "Excel and what not. It is clear to me that I could not have run the new business without what I learned in the course."

Advanced courses include courses for WEB application development, IT & Linux Admin expert training, PPC management, CCNA Routing & Switching, UX / UI and a new employee training course for cyber warfare centers.

These courses, which provide their graduates with a profession and some of which even have practical experience in existing companies, enable integration into jobs in the high-tech world and connect them to relevant professional networking.

Among the professions in which the graduates can integrate are Web Development, Website Management, Junior web dev, Webmaster, QA WEB, IT Specialist, PC Technician, Computer Operators, Field Technician, Server Management, Help Desk, Campaign Management, Analysis, Social Media Marketing , Website promoter, SEO experts and more.

In 2020, the advanced courses were also transferred to an online format, which enabled the expansion of the number of localities from which the participants came from 77 in 2019 to 153 in 2020.

Changing the reality of life

Beyond the aforementioned collaboration, and out of an understanding of the shortage of workers in the high-tech industry, the Employment Service has joined an initiative of the Innovation Authority in which job seekers are recruited for training courses for required professions in the high-tech industry.

The training programs are designed to enable integration in industry, so the duration of the training does not exceed one year, the deductible is up to NIS 5,000 and the amount of grants to the training bodies is affected by the placement speed, scope and salary of the graduate.

The courses focus on development professions (such as Software Engineer, Algorithms Programmer, HW project manger), technological professions that support development (such as DevOps, CI / CD DevOps, IT Specialist, Sales Operations Specialist) and business professions that support development (such as System Analyst, SDR / BDR, Data Analyst).

Since February 2021, 120 study cycles have been opened, in which about 1,130 jobseekers participate.

Rami Graur, CEO of the Employment Service: “The future labor market is already here, and it is faster, more dynamic and especially more digital. Those who do not have digital skills or do not maintain and frequently update these skills will find it very difficult to integrate into the labor market, certainly not to persevere or advance in it. The employment service was one of the first to internalize the spirits of change and prepare, long before the crisis broke out and even more so during and after it. I call on all job seekers to contact us and enjoy the variety of tools and options that the service has to offer to strengthen their digital skills, both basic and no less advanced. "

Dafna Gever, CEO of Tapuach: "We thank you for the partnership with the employment service, 'Digital Israel' and Microsoft, which allows us to change the reality of life of thousands of Israelis through technology.

Thanks to the advanced technological training we have developed, some 4,000 people have integrated into the new world of employment since the outbreak of the crisis.

We call for a significant expansion of the joint activity that will address the hundreds of thousands who need it. "

Start-up: From styling to managing campaigns on Facebook

Liat Frenkel, Netanya

I started my professional career as a personal stylist with a self-employed business.

The styling business has always been in the background, but I never really had the time to pursue it fully.

Before the Corona crisis, I worked as a customer service manager at Digital, until I was fired, like many others when the plague broke out.

"It is important to attend courses with an open mind and not fixed."

Liat Frenkel,

I took advantage of the closures and unemployment that came with them to set out on my own, and I built a website for my business myself.

When I received the invitation from the Employment Bureau to attend the PPC course of the Apple Association, I decided to jump at the opportunity and sign up to learn how to promote the business.

The course is held - like many other and varied courses - as part of the UP program, which is a collaboration between the Employment Service, Tapuach, the Digital Israel initiative and Microsoft Israel, which trains thousands of job seekers through advanced employment programs and returns them to the Israeli technological labor market.

It is very important to get these courses with an open mind and not fixed.

Many times what we think because of a first impression or prejudice - is not true.

Just need to flow.

At the beginning of the course I thought this field was not for me, but slowly something in me opened up and I told myself that I should keep trying.

I saw the persistence of the course as necessary for the purpose of promoting my business, and the employment workshops gave me added value and tools that I did not get anywhere else.

Last June, I started working for a small digital company in Netanya that manages Facebook campaigns, with amazing people, and I was hired as a junior.

I really enjoy working there and feel like my mind is "sharpening".

During my work I also work on texts, also engage in visuals, also manage clients, also manage marketing for everything.

Were we wrong?

Fixed!
