Today, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, called on governments around the world to quickly assess their plans to confront COVID-19 and work on vaccination programs to slow the spread of the Omicron mutant of the Corona virus.
Reuters quoted Ghebreyesus as saying: “The global spread of the mutant shows that it can have a significant impact on the course of the pandemic,” noting that “the time has come to contain the virus before more Omicron patients are admitted to hospitals.”
Ghebreyesus urged the countries of the world to "increase the means of monitoring, examinations and tracing," warning that "any indulgence will cost lives."
The World Health Organization recently announced the inclusion of the Omicron mutant, discovered in South Africa, among the list of variables of concern.
