The cancellations are intended to be a warning from the West in the direction of Beijing: Politicians and diplomats from the USA and Australia will boycott this year's Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.

Now, according to Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Great Britain is also participating in the boycott.

No minister in his cabinet would travel to Beijing, Johnson told the British Parliament in London.

The cancellation is due to political pressure due to human rights violations in Xinjiang Province, which is mainly inhabited by the Muslim Uyghur minority.

The US announced a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Games on Monday.

White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said in Washington that President Joe Biden's administration would not send diplomatic or official representatives to the Winter Olympics in China.

The background is the ongoing "genocide" in Xinjiang and other human rights violations.

The Vice President of the EU Parliament, FDP MP Nicola Beer, also calls for a boycott of the EU states.
