The beekeepers in Hama called for the creation of a specialized party in the field of marketing the product and controlling its specifications, and the establishment of a special association for beekeepers affiliated with the Peasants' Union, in addition to the establishment of specialized festivals to promote Hamwi honey and beekeeping products from beeswax and pollen.

SANA’s economic reporter met with a number of educators, including Thaer Kusa, Husam Al-Abesi and Talal Al-Ahmad from the countryside of Hama, and they pointed out that there are many difficulties facing the work of educators, the most important of which are the high production costs such as empty beehives made of wood, the difficulty of discharging the product and its low prices, as the price of one kilogram of honey ranges between between 18 and 25 thousand pounds.

They explained that fluctuations in climatic conditions constitute one of the most important difficulties facing this profession, and that the process of migrating cells from one place to another exhausts the breeder and increases production costs, which requires securing natural reserves for beekeeping and cultivation of aromatic plants and the multiplication of local bee breeds due to its ability to adapt to environmental and climatic conditions.

For his part, Engineer Fayez Hindawi, Head of the Bee Division in the Hama Agriculture Directorate, explained that beekeeping has returned to recovery again in a number of areas in the northern countryside of the governorate, such as Suran, Taiba Al-Imam, Maardis and Halfaya, indicating that the number of hives in the governorate reached 60,000, while the number of beekeepers exceeded 2,300.

Hendawi pointed out that Hama is considered one of the incubating and encouraging environments for beekeeping, especially that its production during the current season exceeded 420 tons, pointing out that the division carried out many practical data on how to combat wasps, establish traps and toxic baits and carry out pest control operations that threaten bees in addition to providing instructions for the preservation on the cells in the winter.

Hendawi called on beekeepers to continue paying attention to the process of feeding inside the hive and preparing for the spring season, stressing that the condition of the bee colonies in the governorate is in a good health condition, through the department’s continuous advisory and monitoring role for beekeepers, with the aim of developing the reality of their work and facing the difficulties they face.
