Last Isaac? Marten de Ron conquers Atlanta Israel today

2021-12-08T12:29:22.886Z

When Marten de Ron arrived in Atlanta in 2015, she just wanted to survive in the league • Today, six years later, the Dutchman is considered a key part of the team's great success from Bergamo, and he does everything with self-humor and lightness • In the Champions League on Villarreal

Like quite a few players, Marten de Ron also rushed to social media a moment after his team Atlanta rescued 3: 3 against the Young Boys in the previous round of the Champions League.

"Thanks to the great substitute Muriel we come out of here with an important point," the 30-year-old Dutch midfielder wrote the most basic thing.

Then he added: "But there is not much to celebrate because I had to better keep the player who set 2: 2. Good night."

Few footballers are able to share such self-criticism with the world.

Most of the time the social networks are used by the players for the glorification and love of the audience in that they present only the glittering sides of the business, but not in de Ron.

He uses Twitter and Instagram to tell his truth and laugh, mostly about himself.

Just recently uploaded a video in which he announces that the first three people who bought his shirt at the group store will win a personal signature, but for an entire day no one purchased.

When the store manager asks him to leave, he says, "This would not have happened to Messi."

When he scored his first goal in October after 400 days, he tweeted: "Football is a simple game: 22 people run after the ball, and in the end Marten de Ron scores."

Later in the week he posted a picture of himself guarding Cristiano Ronaldo and wrote: "How I like this picture with my best friend."

De Ron's lightness and sincerity are probably an important component in the success of Atalanta, who today need a home win against Villarreal to secure a place in the quarter-finals for the third time in a row.

The team's training from Bergamo is considered to be very intense, especially since the arrival of Danish fitness coach Jens Jens in Nagsbo in 2018, and the way de Ron handles it creates a positive atmosphere for everyone.

"Suitable for any situation"

"A lot of people claim that training here is too hard," De Ron told Athletic, adding, "But when you see the results and feel stronger from game to game, you get energy to go on."

The Dutchman invests this energy in every position that coach Gian Piero Gasparini places him in - at the link or on the left side of the defense.

He also never complains and always delivers the goods.

"He's such a smart player that he can adapt to any situation," Gasparini recently complimented, "He's always fantastic."

While de Ron was always fantastic, Atlanta was not always like that.

When he came to it in 2015 from the Bernabein, the coach was Eddie Riya and the overall aspirations were to survive in the league.

But then he left for a season and a half in Middlesbrough, and by the time Gasparini returned he was already sitting on the bench and everything was different.

"He changed our mentality," De Ron said, "he made us realize that no matter who we play against - you can always win."

It took the Dutchman some time to get sucked into the mentality and intensity, but in his unique way he found the way.

For example, when he scored a goal himself, he hurried to upload it to social media and attach all the tweets that came down on him.

It was done with grace and humor, and so it went on.

In media interviews he has no problem sharing the team's game plan, Gasparini's emphases and the coach's demand of him, because in the end the bottom line is clear to everyone: "He wants us to score goals - and a lot."

Recently Atlanta has been back to conquering a lot.

A trio away against Napoli, a quartet, a quintet, a victory in Turin over Juventus and just four points from first place in the table.

Suddenly the first championship since 1963 seems realistic, but first of all it must complete tonight its first task in the Champions League.

De Ron claimed this week that it is too early to talk about championships and titles, but it is likely that if and when that happens - and even if he does not - he will make sure to tweet a few tweets about it.
