Opinion | No coverage for a long time: The media pressure on the judges in Netanyahu's cases is an attempt to engineer consciousness | Israel today

Even if Nir Hefetz stands on the witness stand and says that he lied in his testimony and fabricated things against Netanyahu - most of the court reports will report that this is a negligible matter • And what about the construction offenses of the plaintiff in the case, Adv. Liat Ben Ari? Whatever the decision of the judges, it must not be made because of media pressure

I was very hesitant to write the things, because after all these are colleagues in the profession. I came to the conclusion that things must be said, because colleagues crossed the lines and went to a very dangerous place.

Most of the lawsuits have long been not covering the trial of former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but trying to create awareness, to make sure he is convicted. Take, for example, the testimony of state witness Nir Hefetz. Even if Hefetz stands on the witness stand and says that he lied in his testimony and made things up against Netanyahu only because the prosecution and the police blackmailed him, they will report that it is negligible and that it even strengthens the case against the former prime minister.

How do I know? Take, for example, the document submitted by the State Attorney's Office at the beginning of Hefetz's testimony. The prosecution submitted a document to the court, in which it retracted the claim that Netanyahu sent Hefetz to talk to the then director general of the Ministry of Communications, Shlomo Pilber, about regulatory issues related to Shaul Elowitz.

The prosecutor's office explained that in the refresher conversation held for Hefetz before his testimony, he clarified that this did not happen. This is a very dramatic thing, as it was alleged that in exchange for fan coverage on the Walla website, Netanyahu sent Hefetz to Pilber to provide regulatory benefits to Wallawitz, the owner of Walla. But most court reporters have reported that this is a marginal matter, which has no bearing on the trial.

And what about the despicable exercise they did to the object to make it a state witness? Unfortunately, and in a most puzzling way, it is not possible to detail what that ugly exercise is, since there is a ban on advertising. In a reformed country there should be no ban on advertising such a thing. It can only be said that through the same exercise, the investigators threatened to destroy the object of his family. And what are those scriptures pumping about the horrible exercise? That an object agreed to become a state witness of its own free will regardless of the exercise.

But long before that they told us that the fact that the attorney general did not authorize the police to open an investigation against Netanyahu as required by law in the case of an incumbent prime minister is negligible and that oral approvals were given.

Also on the testimony of Walla CEO Ilan Yeshua, who crashed on the witness stand and even the judges said it was impossible to know when he was telling the truth and when he was lying, they reported that it was excellent testimony for the prosecution. No less.

And there are more examples.

For example, the alleged construction offenses of the plaintiff in the case, attorney Liat Ben-Ari.

This is a senior prosecutor, who should be as clean as snow.

During her interrogation on suspicion of committing the offenses, Ben-Ari replied: "I do not know, I have no idea" - like the last of the criminals.

This outrageous story was published mostly in media outlets affiliated with the right, in the rest of the media almost unreported.

Not only was it not reported, court reporters even mocked the publication and said it was all about construction offenses.

The journals in most media are not interesting to report, they want to create awareness.

For them, there is no difference between reporting and opinion, they work day and night to make sure that Netanyahu is convicted.

They not only want to influence the consciousness of the public, but also, and especially, the consciousness of Rivka Friedman-Feldman, Moshe Bar-Am and Oded Shaham - the judges in the case.

And here lies the great danger.

Whatever the decision of the judges in Netanyahu's cases, it must not be made because of the heavy media pressure exerted on them.

The decision should be based on the evidence and from their inner truth.

Were we wrong?
