Russian President Vladimir Putin reiterated that the expansion of the "NATO" alliance to the east is one of the most important security issues for his country from the strategic perspective, indicating that Russia will present to the United States its proposals on security issues within a week.
During a press conference held today with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Putin described the talks he held via video link with his American counterpart Joe Biden yesterday as "constructive", considering that it opens the way for continuing dialogue between Moscow and Washington.
Putin indicated that he discussed security issues with Biden, among other topics covered in the talks, adding that "Russia will formulate its proposals within a week and then put them before the American side."
On Ukraine's admission to NATO, Putin said, "We cannot help but be concerned about the possibility of Ukraine joining the alliance, because this will undoubtedly be followed by the deployment of appropriate military units, bases and weapons that threaten us," adding, "We proceed from the premise that security must be global and extend to Everyone is equal.”
The Russian President indicated that NATO is unfriendly and declares Russia an enemy, indicating at the same time that Russia does not seek any confrontations with any party.
The Russian President called on his US counterpart, during the talks that took place between them yesterday via video link, not to blame Russia for the situation around Ukraine, calling on NATO to guarantee security against expanding the alliance to the east.
