The Social Welfare Institute in Shain district, in the western Homs countryside, is unique in embracing children with disabilities residing in the district and its villages and following them up according to the latest educational methods, which contributes to their support and work to achieve their integration into society.
The director of the institute, Huda Badr, explained to SANA reporter that the institute serves 4 categories of disabilities, including mental ones from 6 to 15 years old, deaf and dumb people from 4 to 10 years old, cerebral palsy and blind people from 5 to 10 years old, under the supervision of specialized educational cadres in addition to academic education according to the national program For the disability approved by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, noting that there are 27 children in the institute during the current year from Shane and its villages, 17 for females and 10 for males.
In turn, the psychologist at the institute, Adel Radwan, stated that his role requires following up the children since they joined the institute to bring them to a state of adaptation and harmony with their companions and supervisors by relying on educational, educational and recreational means that monitor the abilities of each child and reflect his psychological compatibility with his surroundings, as well as monitoring his progress by enhancing his personal and educational life skills and in full communication with parents To avoid all difficulties.
The teacher of intellectual disability at the Institute, Rahaf Abboud, pointed out that the care and education of children is carried out gradually with the aim of giving them the necessary information and skills according to the child's age, mental ability and response to the educational and educational curriculum established, indicating that according to the child's academic progress, he is provided with more behaviors and information that will achieve his integration into society.
A number of the children’s parents, including Eileen Salloum, mother of Kareem, 7 years old, who has Down syndrome, and Rasmiya Al Hassan, mother of Nada 9 years old, who suffers from deaf and dumb people, expressed their satisfaction with the behavioral and cognitive progress of their children since entering the institute, training, taking care of them, and constantly communicating with them to combine efforts and produce good results, stressing the importance of having their children in the institute as The only one in the province.
The institute was established in accordance with the decision of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor No. 1416 of 2013.
