Homs-Sana
The homeland, with its beautiful nature and earthy colors, formed the basis for the works of the expatriate plastic artist, Mohamed Diop, in his 17th solo exhibition entitled (Before), whose paintings were dominated by the experimental method at times and the element of modernity at other times, as the ego was not absent from most of his paintings.
The exhibition hosted by the Shuaib Gallery for Fine Arts in Homs includes 40 plastic works produced by Diop over a quarter of a century.
About his exhibition, Diop told SANA Cultural that the title (Before) is a group of works that were selected from different periods and come within an artistic project of the Friends of the Environment Society, which will be launched soon, in which it relied on the use of recycled materials to give the painting a distinction in terms of color and innovative technology.
Regarding the predominance of black on most of the exhibition’s paintings, Diop explained that he prefers this color because it is the basis of the photograph and one of the raw natural elements such as charcoal, lead and dirt, and the artist’s use of it means the permanence of his works for a long time, unlike other materials such as watercolor or acrylic.
Diop pointed out that he relied in his works on the Mix Media style by integrating a group of materials in the same painting such as sand, paper, dirt and others, which gives the work an attractive distinction, while in other paintings he relied on the circle, which he sees as a pivotal center in the universe. The distances to its diameter are equal as the female controls On most of his works, he describes them as the basis for the start and renewal of life.
It is noteworthy that Diop is a member of the Federation of Syrian and Arab Plastic Artists and the Emirates Society for Plastic Arts and Friends of the Environment. He has dozens of group exhibitions inside and outside the country and 16 solo exhibitions, and he has won many honorary awards in recognition of his work.
