The General Organization for Seed Multiplication, through its centers in the governorates, continues to sifter and sterilize the quantities of wheat seed for distribution to farmers in order to implement the agricultural plan. The sifted, sterilized and ready-to-distribute quantities have so far reached 48 thousand tons of the quantities of raw seeds available at the Foundation, which amount to 75 thousand tons.
In a statement to Sana Bayn, Director General of the Corporation, Dr. Bassam Al-Sulaiman, that 17,000 tons of those quantities were sold to farmers who obtained an agricultural license through the Corporation’s branches and the branches of the Cooperative Agricultural Bank, noting that the Corporation’s production plan for the next season includes the production of 120,000 tons of wheat seed and is underway. Currently, the necessary contracts to implement this plan are concluded with farmers.
On the national project for the propagation of potato seeds, Al-Sulaiman said that this year, the last phase of the project was launched, which is the stage of open fields, which aims to produce potato seeds of the elite order, as its production reached about 1,100 tons of potato seed, part of which was sold to farmers to plant it in their lands during the autumn season.
Suleiman confirmed that the subscription door is currently open for the rest of the potato seed quantity for farmers wishing to obtain it for planting the next spring crop at a price of one million and 350 thousand pounds per ton, pointing out that this price achieves the main objective of the project by securing the farmers’ need for potato seeds at encouraging prices that compete with the prices of imported seeds. .
In the field of imported seeds, Al-Sulaiman explained that the Corporation has completed all procedures to import about 2,000 tons of elite potato seeds, which is the quantity that has been subscribed to by farmers and of the varieties desired by them, and it is expected that the seed will start arriving within the next two weeks.
