Mai Shaoyang, an 11-year-old boy with a positive personality and always jumping around, was unfortunately confirmed to have a rare blood cancer. After only ten months of fighting the cancer, he showed signs of "relapse" again. Now he can only receive treatment in the hospital. The doctor frankly said that the survival rate is only 50%, and the bone marrow is in urgent need of life.

After Shaoyang learned of his physical condition, he asked his parents twice: "Is the mimi going to die?" It was heartbreaking.

Mother Katherine urged citizens to register as peripheral blood stem cell and bone marrow donors, hoping to find a suitable bone marrow donation for her son, and pointed out: "In and out of the hospital for 10 months, more detailed (patients) are available, expand the Red Cross bone marrow donor information The library can help other families."

11-year-old Mai Shaoyang was unfortunately diagnosed with a rare blood cancer last year. It was not easy to fight against the cancer demon. It was even more unfortunate that he "relapsed" and urgently needed suitable bone marrow to continue his life.

In December last year, Shao Yang went to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for medical treatment due to red spots and neck swelling. He was diagnosed with rare T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (blood cancer).

He was referred to the Children’s Hospital for a two-and-a-half-year course of treatment. Unfortunately, after about ten months of treatment, Shao Yang was examined due to persistent headaches. He was confirmed to have "relapsed" at the end of last month.

He currently needs to undergo a series of electrotherapy and chemotherapy treatments. Because his immunity is extremely low and his "index is zero", he may be infected or have complications at any time. Therefore, he can only be hospitalized for 24-hour medical monitoring. Parents need to shift early to accompany him. Yang, in case there is any sudden change.

Mother Katherine said that Shaoyang had a positive personality and was smart. She would follow her parents to climb rocks and participate in water sports every weekend before the diagnosis. She was always healthy and had no family history. Cancer came suddenly. The doctor explained that "gene mutation, the cause unknown".

Shaoyang walked the road of fighting cancer very painfully. "He has to endure a lot of pain, take the heavy medicine, and sometimes feel good, but it will take a sharp turn and go down fast."

Shocked by the news of cancer and recurrence, Shao Yang asked his parents twice: "Is the mimi going to die?" He also made his parents heartbroken. "The battle is so hard. After fighting for ten months, I can't help. Qu (Shaoyang), I worry every day."

Katherine pointed out that due to the impact of the epidemic, the current treatment mainly relies on local donations, and overseas is not considered for the time being. If there is no suitable donor, the second choice is umbilical cord blood, and the last choice is donated by the parents, that is, semi-adjuvant transplantation.

She hoped that Shaoyang and other patients could find suitable bone marrow as soon as possible, and appealed to the general public to extend a helping hand and register as a donor with the Red Cross.

According to the information on the website of the Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service Center, citizens can go to the fixed blood donation station of the Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service Center to complete the registration and blood test procedures to become bone marrow donors.

The blood test and personal information of the registrant will be stored in the database.

When a patient with severe hemopathy needs a bone marrow transplant, the "Donor Database" will search for conjugated donors in the computer database.

At present, in addition to traditional bone marrow donation, hematopoietic stem cells can also be drawn from the peripheral blood of the marrow donor through a blood separator.

Hematopoietic stem cells are obtained through a blood separator, and the process is similar to general blood donation (such as blood component donation, plasma and platelet donation).

The whole donation process takes 3 to 4 hours to complete without general anesthesia.
