The new traffic light federal government wants to redistribute some of the responsibilities between the ministries, especially for climate policy and digital issues.

The new Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock (Greens), will be responsible for international climate policy from the Ministry of the Environment.

This provides for an organizational decree by the new Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), which was presented to the German Press Agency on Wednesday.

The "Handelsblatt" reported on it first.

Baerbock will thus represent Germany in future at international climate conferences.

The Ministry of Transport becomes a kind of digital ministry

The new Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, Robert Habeck (Greens), has been given responsibility for climate protection from the Ministry of the Environment, with the exception of international climate policy.

Habeck will be responsible for the Climate Protection Act, one of the central laws in climate policy.

The Ministry of Transport, under the new head of department Volker Wissing (FDP), has significantly more competencies for digital issues - and becomes a kind of digital ministry.

So far, the Ministry has been responsible for digital infrastructure.

The Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport, as it is now called, receives responsibility for national and international digital policy from the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

According to the decree, the Chancellery will be responsible for “operational projects” in digital policy, and the post of previous Digital State Minister Dorothee Bär (CSU) will be eliminated.

According to information from the German Press Agency, Stefan Schnorr, previously Head of the Digital and Innovation Policy Department in the Federal Ministry of Economics, will be the new State Secretary in the Ministry of Transport and Digital.

Wissing's house also receives responsibility for telecommunications from the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

This also means technical and legal supervision of the Federal Network Agency without responsibility for the post.

According to the decree, the new Ministry of Building and Housing will be responsible for the construction and construction industry and federal buildings from the Ministry of the Interior
