A cream cheese bagel, anyone who has ever been in contact with an American Jew knows, is one of the most sought after and identified dishes with New York Jewry in general, and American Jewry in general.
Recently, there has been a significant shortage in the supply of cream cheese to bagel and bakery stores across New York, causing a "crisis," according to some media outlets that have covered the issue intensively.
The reason for the shortage is difficulties in supplying the raw materials, which means that the manufacturers are unable to withstand the load.

The American media take the event with abysmal seriousness, and devoted a series of articles to the subject, which were collected by Makor Rishon's Diaspora correspondent Zvika Klein.
"It's pretty scary, everyone's freaking out," New Yorkers were quoted as saying by reporters what their feelings were.
More than a hundred bagel shops and stalls were reportedly damaged as a result of the shortage.
The Heinz company, which supplies a significant portion of the cream cheese, responded to an article on the subject on the abc network, saying that there is a significant increase in the consumption of the requested cheese.
"We supply 35 percent more cheese to stalls and bagel shops compared to last year. This phenomenon is expected to continue."
Vendors have indicated that they are experiencing a huge shortage of product.
"Cream cheese and bagels is New York," Joe Yama told CBS, showing the reporter the empty refrigerator.
"Usually everything is full here from wall to wall - now nothing."
And Fox News summed it up nicely: "The latest victim of the plague will hurt New Yorkers right in the stomach. There's a mysterious shortage of cream cheese - and the fear is palpable."
