The ministry presented the ministers with data on the spread of the strain in Israel and around the world. • In African countries, there is a rapid spread and increase in young hospitalizations. • In Israel, the distribution is limited, with no evidence of community infection.

The Ministry of Health today (Thursday) presented the ministers with new data on the spread of the omicron strain in the world and its impact on Israel, and recommended that restrictions continue at Ben Gurion Airport for another ten days.

In continental African countries, rapid spread is reported, with the weekly average four times higher than last week.

The severity of the disease is not yet known and there are partial reports from South Africa of an increase in young hospitalizations.

It is estimated that the potential for infection is 5-3.5 times higher.

In Israel, there is a very limited distribution, with no evidence of community infection.

About 100 verified suspects for Omicron, 49 on high suspicion and 30 on low suspicion.

Of the vertebrates suspected of the strain, six recovered, 43 returned from abroad and 33 with symptomatic. 53% were vaccinated with a booster.

The presentation presented the number of verified people who have recently entered Israel from countries around the world, including 41 verified people from the United States, 35 from the United Kingdom and 34 from France.

As stated, the Ministry of Health recommended continued restrictions on leaving the country, supervised isolation and a tight inspection policy.

Closure on unvaccinated and closure of Ben Gurion Airport?

Earlier today, the Prime Minister, Naftali Bennett, and the Minister of Health, Nitzan Horowitz, held an assessment of the situation regarding the corona virus and the omicron strain.

During the discussion, the Prime Minister proposed the possibility of a closure on the unvaccinated, while mentioning the example of Austria. Those present at the meeting called the proposals "far-reaching."

Health Minister Horowitz and Ministry of Health officials vehemently opposed and did not reach an agreement.

"There were no screams, but there was a heated dialogue at the meeting," says a source present at the meeting.

"Everyone was surprised by the restrictions requested by the Prime Minister.

It's out of nowhere.

These are extreme proposals and there is a question of constitutionality that hovers over them. "Deputy Attorney General Raz Nizri, who was present at the meeting, also noted that there may be a legal difficulty in closing down on the unvaccinated.
