During the French EU Council Presidency, which begins in January 2022, French President Emmanuel Macron has spoken out in favor of voluntary European community service.

This should last six months and be possible for all young people under the age of 25, Macron said on Thursday in Paris.

"An academic exchange, an apprenticeship, an internship or participation in a club," said Macron, are conceivable.

The year 2022 should be the "year of European youth", according to Macron.
