More than 110 countries were invited to the Summit for Democracy convened by the United States, with the exception of some Central American nations such as Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador.
"Our approach to participation for the summit was to follow what we call a big ten approach, and try to achieve a very high degree of broad geographic representation," explained US Under Secretary of State Uzra Zeya.
