Will German fiber optics also come to Eitting?

The local council now had them as guests.

Eitting - The municipality of Eitting wants to turn onto the digital motorway soon, at least in large parts of the main town.

At least, if it is up to Enrico Hesse from the Deutsche Glasfaser group, who presented the project at the municipal council meeting on Tuesday evening.

As reported, the VG neighbors from Oberding recently decided to rely on the company from Borken in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Hesse's most important statement: “The expansion will be carried out at no cost to the community.” The catch, however, is that the Eittingen free-of-charge only applies to large parts of the main town: “Of course we also want to earn money with it, and we consider this area From an economic point of view. "Individual streets in Eitting and the various districts such as Gaden are no longer available, but could still get fiber optics through the back door:" The municipality would have to go into one of the existing funding programs with these addresses. In any case, they will then receive an offer from us. Eitting would certainly have to bear a certain amount of his own contribution.

Why is fiber optic expansion necessary? Hesse explained: “More and more devices are being connected to the Internet. Streaming services have to compress 4K films heavily with conventional lines. ”50 or 100 Mbit per second would not be enough, with the company's fiber optic offer, the download speed can increase to up to 1 gigabit per second - welcome to the motorway.

Deutsche Glasfaser is active throughout Germany and, according to Hesse, came across Eitting because Oberding had already become active. The next step would be to drive on the streets, including counting the bells and mailboxes: "We have to know how many residential units are in each case," emphasized Hesse. A final concept with locations for the main technology as well as for several network distributors - these are gray boxes, as we know them from Telekom today - will not be long in coming.

A condition for the expansion is a cooperation agreement with the municipality, says Hesse: “In this we commit ourselves to, for example, restore the surfaces. However, the municipal councils should also support us by acting as advertising multipliers. They would get the connection free of charge; latecomers are currently charged a flat rate of 750 euros. A complete road map is not required for the expansion. Hesse: "A 15 centimeter wide trench with a milling depth of 40 centimeters is usually sufficient."

The schedule is sporty: further talks with the municipality are planned for the first quarter of 2022, and demand will already be bundled in the second.

Construction is then scheduled to begin at the end of 2022, with completion one year later.

The local councils didn't have many questions at first, and Mayor Reinhard Huber (local list of travel) emphasized: “We need a little time to let the whole thing sink in.” Hesse suggested answering possible questions in writing by the next meeting.
