Lower Saxony relies on strict and strict corona rules.

But should the 2G restriction also apply to children aged twelve and over?

This is hotly debated.

Hanover - In order to be able to effectively contain the infection process in Lower Saxony, the state government around Prime Minister Stephan Weil (SPD) is relying on a new corona ordinance.

This will take effect from Monday, December 13, 2021. What applies to which warning level, in which areas 2G, 2G plus or 3G apply - all of this is firmly anchored here.

But do the rules also apply to minors?

With regard to 2G for children and adolescents, there is still a lack of clarity.

2G for children too?

Lower Saxony's child protection association rejects this - because minors should not have to pay for their parents' vaccination decisions

This means whether the expansion of the 2G rule should also apply to children from the age of twelve.

As a result of this pandemic measure, access to appropriately marked areas is only permitted for those who have been completely vaccinated and those who have recovered.

There is no loophole for the unvaccinated, as the 3G rule allows for example in the workplace with a negative test result.

The Child Protection Association of Lower Saxony is reluctant to take on the project and is resolutely against expanding 2G to include children who are twelve years of age or older.

In a communication from the regional association on December 13th, this is justified by the fact that at the end of the day children should not pay for their parents' vaccination decisions.

Raising the age limit for 2G in Lower Saxony to 14 years?

Proposal from the child protection association

In general, however, the 2G rule, as it was overturned at hairdressers in Lower Saxony *, is considered to be a sensible measure to contain the corona pandemic.

In addition, it was “to consider whether the age limit, as in other federal states, should be raised to at least 14 years”.

That says Simon Kopelke, board member of the Child Protection Association of Lower Saxony.

In this case, young people would have a say in the vaccination issue and would be more independent - and therefore more flexible.

Kopelke is skeptical about the implementation of the 2G and 2G plus regulations in this age group.

"The children and adolescents would then have to have themselves tested before every football or badminton training session - how should they manage that next to school, how should parents arrange it between job and household?" He notes.

Are minors in Lower Saxony excluded from social life again?

Many parents fear the 2G rule for their children

According to Kopelke, many parents fear that their children will again be excluded from social life in this way.

But what are the current facts?

So far, under-18s in Lower Saxony have been exempted from the 2G rule.

In all likelihood, this should change at the beginning of the new year.

Prime Minister Weil had already announced this and also knew how to justify it.

After all, the vaccination recommendation for 12 to 17 year olds was long ago and they could get vaccinated accordingly.

Vaccination front runner Bremen presents: Five to eleven year olds are vaccinated in the Hanseatic city

In the meantime, the Hanseatic city of Bremen, the nationwide vaccination leader, has set up a vaccination center especially for children and families.

From December 14, children between the ages of five and eleven can be vaccinated against the coronavirus here.

According to official information, the already approved vaccine from Biontech / Pfizer is used for this.
