Al-Assad Gallery for Fine Arts in Aleppo hosted the artist Ahmed Qassem’s exhibition “The Horizons of the Arabic Craft” as part of the activities of the Syrian Plastic Art Days, and it will last for a week.
Regarding the paintings and the main axis in them, Qassem explained to SANA reporter that it is the Arabic calligraphy and the letter with diversity in terms of the contents of the painting and the presence of the Arabic letter in it as a plastic element and in an abstract style, in addition to the use of watercolors, trying to show the Arabic letter in different ways and distinguished in joyful colors.
Jaber Al-Sajour, Director of Culture in Aleppo, spoke in a similar statement about the exhibition, which included 26 works depicting the Arabic letter, through which Qassem printed his own fingerprint and used the letter in formation with a new and impressive visual vision for him in terms of its contents that call for emulation of good morals and joy in victory.
Nouran Jabakji, head of the Aleppo branch of the Union of Fine Artists, saw that the artist Qassem tried to embody his works in several themes using abstraction and composition together with the help of oil colors and overlapping composition by letter through overlapping lines so that these lines serve the idea of paintings.
The artist Qassem's dependence on the Arabic letter in this exhibition, according to Ibrahim Daoud, Secretary of the Fine Artists Union branch, with the aim of merging plastic art with the Arabic letter.
As for the plastic artist who has experience in hurufiyyat, Khaldoun Al-Ahmad expressed his admiration for this exhibition, which embodies our Arabic language and alphabet through what the artist Qassem worked on in highlighting and coloring the Arabic letter, which added beauty to the presence of the letter within the paintings.
