December 14, 2012 -

At an unknown time, 20-year-old Adam Lanza kills his mother, Nancy, 52, with a .22-caliber Savage Mark II rifle.

Lanza then drives his mother's car to Sandy Hook Elementary School, about 5 miles away.

At approximately 9:30 am -

Lanza arrives at Sandy Hook School, which had about 700 students.

The director, Dawn Hochsprung, had installed a new security system that required all visitors to ring the bell at the main entrance to enter.

Lanza fights his way by shooting at the entrance and enters the school
