Seven migrants were killed in Hungary during a trip organized by smugglers.
They died when their vehicle hit a house while fleeing the police and overturned, the Hungarian police announced on Tuesday.
Accordingly, the accident occurred late Monday evening in Mórahalom near the Hungarian-Serbian border.
Four people were also injured, including the Serbian driver.
Before that, police officers wanted to check the vehicle, after which the driver accelerated and started to escape.
The driver was arrested, according to the notification, he now has to answer for smuggling.
The police also said that he was being investigated for "causing a mass accident."
According to the EU, Hungary violates European and international law
The right-wing Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who has ruled Hungary again since 2010, has made it as good as impossible to apply for asylum in the EU country Hungary.
In 2015 he had a metal fence erected on the border with neighboring Serbia to the south.
Refugees who are apprehended in Hungary are pushed back to Serbia by the authorities without any further procedure.
Human rights activists and the UN refugee agency UNHCR describe the practice as illegal.
According to the EU, Hungary's asylum policy is also violating European and international law.
Several infringement proceedings have therefore been launched against the country.
In November, Orbán had offered the Western European countries to open corridors through his country for refugees if they so desired.
"If you need them, take them," he said in a radio interview.
