Italy tightened corona rules on entry: compulsory testing and quarantine
Before leaving their country of origin, people who want to go to Italy must now have a negative test for the virus.
The test can be a maximum of 24 hours old.
A quick test is sufficient.
The Italian Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday evening.
Italy's Health Minister Roberto Speranza had signed an order to this effect in coordination with Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio.
Unvaccinated people have to be quarantined for five days in addition to a test.
This is to prevent the Omikron variant from being imported into Italy from abroad.
New corona rules when entering Italy are valid until the end of January
Previously, the so-called green passport was valid when entering Italy: a negative test OR proof of vaccination or recovery.
In addition to the negative test, a completed digital entry form must now also be presented.
In addition, Italy has also extended the entry rules for travelers from other EU countries.
Quarantine rules already applied there for people who had stayed in third countries two weeks before entering Italy.
The quarantine here is ten days.
The entry ban for certain countries in southern Africa, which the government had imposed in the wake of the widespread Omikron variant, was also extended.
According to the Ministry of Health, the new rules apply from December 16 to January 31.
