Retrieval of the works of eighties artists in an exhibition in the People's Gallery

Damascus, SANA- The art audience was briefed on a rich collection of works by artists of the eighties through an art exhibition.

The audience of fine art was acquainted with a rich collection of the works of artists of the eighties, through a retrospective art exhibition of the holdings of the Ministry of Culture, as part of the activities of the Syrian Plastic Art Days 2021.

The exhibition, which was hosted by the People’s Gallery of the Syrian Plastic Artists Union, included 38 plastic works whose art schools varied between realism, expressionism, symbolism and abstraction, with multiple techniques, large sizes, and topics ranging from nature, silent nature, portraiture and human themes.

The sculptor Imad Kashout, director of fine arts at the Ministry of Culture, said in a statement to SANA, “The exhibition includes a group of plastic paintings by artists who influenced the Syrian plastic movement in the eighties, and it is an opportunity to introduce the Syrian public to generations of artists and their works to see them and follow the path of the development of their experiences,” considering that the retrospective exhibitions are important to familiarize young people with the path of The Syrian plastic movement and the dissemination of visual and aesthetic culture in society.

In turn, the plastic artist, Muhammad Irfan Abu al-Shamat, head of the Union of Plastic Artists, explained that the exhibition constitutes a state of communication between generations of Syrian plastic artists, introducing the public to them and their artistic production, and celebrating the eighties and its artists because it is an important era in Syrian formation.

For his part, a member of the Executive Office of the Union of Plastic Artists, artist Hussein Saqour, considered that the specificity of the exhibition lies in the fact that it brought us back to an important period of the history of Syrian plastic art, and we learned about the production of plastic artists, many of whom are still creating so far, to compare their old and current productions, and to stand on the wheel of their development, considering That any participating artist when he comes to the exhibition will feel nostalgic for his previous work and will see the stages he crossed during his artistic career.
