Moscow, SANA- Head of the International Affairs Committee of the Russian State Duma, Leonid Slutsky, warned of the outbreak of a new, written crisis

Moscow-Sana

The head of the International Affairs Committee of the Russian State Duma Leonid Slutsky has warned of the outbreak of a new dangerous crisis in Europe due to the allegations of NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg about distrust of the Russian idea of a voluntary moratorium on the deployment of medium and short-range missiles.

Slutsky told reporters today in Moscow that Stoltenberg's declaration that Russia's initiative to ban the deployment of medium and short-range missiles in Europe is untrustworthy clearly aims to increase tensions and certainly does not show a willingness to dialogue and that such a situation is fraught with a new missile crisis on the European continent.

Slutsky stressed that the current general context is far from an appropriate atmosphere in terms of monitoring arms control and maintaining strategic stability and security in the world, recalling that his country pledged of its own volition in 2019 to commit to implementing such a moratorium immediately upon the collapse of the INF Treaty due to the futility of the previous US administration.

Slutsky pointed out that the continuous attempts to transfer responsibility for the collapse of the treaty and place it on Russia only aggravate the situation and do not contribute to the development of constructive solutions.

Russia recently confirmed that the withdrawal of the United States from the Open Skies Agreement is an unfortunate step, as it is the main document to ensure mutual confidence in Europe, as this agreement was signed in 1992 and became one of the confidence-building measures in Europe after the Cold War.
