The Green Group leader Dröge warns of the slow fight of the traffic lights against climate change.

Necessary measures would have to be initiated more quickly.

Berlin - The traffic light government is only just in office and dignity - but in the Green parliamentary group there are apparently already worries about a painful failure: The new Green parliamentary group leader Katharina Dröge fears that the coalition's climate policy with the SPD and FDP is too slow.

"The hardest thing is to achieve the necessary speed for changes," said Dröge the

editorial network Germany (RND)

in an interview published Tuesday.

"The legislative process is often much slower than you would like it to be and than would be necessary for climate protection, for example."

Climate policy often encounters very practical obstacles such as delivery bottlenecks for wind power and solar systems or the shortage of skilled workers.

And "planning and approval processes take their time, even if they are accelerated," said the Greens.

Green parliamentary group leader Dröge warns: Climate protection in the traffic light coalition is taking too long

It is now crucial that "the necessary climate protection measures are initiated so that emissions are permanently reduced".

The results of these measures may then only be seen years later.

"Expectation management" must therefore be carried out.

Not only the Greens should be measured by the achievement of the climate protection goals: "Climate change threatens the whole of society," said Dröge to the

RND

.

“Everyone is responsible for this.

Everyone should see it as their job to actually do climate protection. "

The traffic light coalition had repeatedly announced that they wanted to focus more on climate protection.

In the coalition agreement there is a 41-page chapter on "Climate protection in a socio-ecological market economy".

The coal phase-out should be brought forward, renewable energies should be expanded and the way to climate neutrality should be paved by 2045.

So the plan of the SPD, Greens and FDP.

But there is already criticism of the various projects, the parties being accused of “greenwashing”, among other things.

The impetus for this resentment is also vaguely chosen formulations such as “ideally” and “should”, which appear in large numbers in the coalition agreement.
