Corona test obligation: when is the booster vaccination legally valid?

The conference of health ministers has brought relief for those vaccinated with boosters. But when do you get the third spade and when is the certificate valid?

The conference of health ministers has brought relief for those vaccinated with boosters.

But when do you get the third spade and when is the certificate valid?

Berlin - The booster vaccination is an important omicron adjusting screw and ray of hope in the fourth corona wave.

The campaign for the third spade is therefore in full swing.

Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) and his colleagues from the individual countries launched an additional incentive to be boosted on Tuesday (December 14th): For people who have been vaccinated three times, there is no compulsory test in many areas of daily life.

In the days before, Lauterbach had campaigned for exemption from the obligation to test several times.

From a medical point of view, it does not make sense to send people who have been vaccinated three times for testing, he said, for example, in the ARD - and received headwinds from doctors for this.

There is no test obligation for booster-vaccinated persons - these federal states are pioneers

Some federal states, for example Baden-Württemberg, Lower Saxony, Rhineland-Palatinate and Bavaria, anticipated the conference of health ministers and already relaxed the 2Gplus rule.

In Bavaria, the test for boosted people who want to visit cultural, leisure and sports activities with the 2G-plus rule has been obsolete since December 14th.

One crucial question remains: when is one legally considered to be boosted?

Anyone who has the third Corona syringe usually receives the digital certificate immediately and displays the date of the vaccination in the CovPass Check app.

Studies assume that the booster protection works five to twelve days after the third vaccination.

However, the results are still preliminary.

Booster: Baden-Württemberg takes a special route if a third-party vaccination is compulsory

There has not yet been a uniform regulation as to when the booster vaccination status is legally valid. In Baden-Württemberg, for example, the third-party vaccination already exempts you from testing at 2Gplus events immediately after the peak. The Baden-Württemberg Ministry for Social Affairs, Health and Integration announced this at the request of the

Frankfurter Rundschau

: "Here you don't have to wait 14 days - as with full vaccination protection."

For complete vaccination protection, i.e. two doses administered, a 14-day waiting period after the second vaccination was and still applies nationwide.

Klaus Holetschek (CSU) called for such a rule for booster vaccinations before the health ministers' conference on Tuesday (December 14th): "We countries need clarity quickly as to whether and from when the compulsory test can be waived for three vaccinated people," said the chairman of the Conference of Health Ministers and Bavaria's Health Minister.

Test exemption after booster vaccination: Health ministers clarify

It was Holetschek who announced an agreement after the Health Minister went live: "We have agreed that people who have received booster vaccinations should be exempted from the test obligation under the 2G-Plus regulation once they have been fully effective," said Holetschek the AFP news agency.

He left it open for the time being when the regulation will come into force nationwide.

All those who received the booster vaccination at least 15 days ago are considered fully vaccinated, explained Holetschek.

However, the exemption from testing does not apply in all areas.

In hospitals, nursing homes and other medical facilities, people who have been vaccinated three times must also be tested further.

According to Holetschek, the decision should be reassessed after two months at the latest.

When can I get boosted?

NRW is rowing back after a four-week announcement

In view of the relief for people who have been vaccinated three times, many people should try to get the third spade in the coming days and weeks - which could be difficult in view of Karl Lauterbach's terrifying vaccine inventory.

But when do you actually have the right to the third vaccination?

There is no specific regulation here either.

An interval of at least five months is recommended.

On Tuesday (December 14th), however, North Rhine-Westphalia's Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU) caused a stir when he declared that booster vaccinations in North Rhine-Westphalia are generally possible after four weeks.

He received a lot of criticism from experts for this and rowed back the next day.

On Wednesday (December 15), the NRW Ministry of Health recommended in a communication that the "normal case" of at least five months after the basic immunization should be observed.

The minimum interval of four weeks is still possible in "individual decisions based on a medical indication," it says.
