Finally, children can also pick up the corona vaccination.

The start took place in Munich, but doctors see numerous problems.

Munich - Quirin Heitzer (6) from Laim * bravely holds the crochet monkey Momo in his hand.

A brief moment of shock at the puncture, then a smile.

“It wasn't bad at all,” says Quirin.

He is one of the first young people from Munich who yesterday received the children's vaccine against the coronavirus * from Biontech.

A lot of parents want such a prick right now - but it's not that easy.

Many pediatricians do not vaccinate at all.

The rush to the city vaccination centers is also huge.

And on top of that, the vaccine distribution is still opaque.

In the Schwabing * practice where Quirin is vaccinated, the medical assistants can no longer get away from the phone.

“The interest is huge.

But we can only vaccinate our own patients, ”says Dr.

Sandra Hermanns.

There should be 150 children by Christmas.

About every third family ask about a child vaccination.

Munich: Corona vaccinations for children started - "Demand is huge"

"The demand is huge," confirms the state chairman of the Association of Pediatricians, Dominik Ewald. "Everyone has a sick relative or schoolchildren who would have to be quarantined if they were infected." This poses challenges for the practices. The problem: The resident children usually do not have enough capacity to vaccinate many children. "For the 40 vaccinations that are carried out with us today, five hours of bureaucracy are required," says pediatrician Philipp Schoof, who is also the chairman of the professional association for Munich *.

He estimates that around half of all doctors in Munich vaccinate children. "This is not possible, especially for individual practices with only one doctor." In the midst of the wave of infections, doctors often have to vaccinate in their spare time. To make matters worse, the doctor can never know in advance exactly how much vaccine he is really going to get. "Some doctors only have to refer interested parties to the vaccination center."

At the municipal vaccination center yesterday - after the computer for booking appointments on Tuesday (December 14th) broke down due to overload - everything seemed to be working.

According to the health department, the capacity of the server has been increased.

There were also dates: On Wednesday (December 15th) for the end of December, for example.

It starts on Thursday (December 16) in the municipal child vaccination center on Gasteig.

The start was delayed by a day due to vaccine delivery problems.

Munich: Child vaccinations started, but there is not enough corona vaccine

Mayor Dieter Reiter * also criticizes these problems: One could not discuss compulsory vaccinations and note in the next breath that there was not enough vaccine, he said on Wednesday (December 15) in the city council. But how can this come about? How is the vaccine distributed? According to the Pharmacists' Association, doctors order the vaccine from pharmacies, they get the doses from wholesalers - and those from the Federal Ministry of Health. "On Monday we will find out the maximum order quantities from the wholesalers," explains the Munich pharmacist Dr. Peter Sandmann. Biontech is very popular, here the quota is limited to 30 doses per doctor and week. There are no limits at Moderna.

Doctors find out how much vaccine there is on Thursday or Friday.

He arrives at the pharmacies on Monday.

"There were delivery problems with the children's vaccine this week, which came with a one-day delay on Wednesday," says Sandmann.

There is probably a problem with a preliminary stage of the wholesalers, i.e. at the ministry level.

Another problem is that the demand currently partially exceeds the supply of vaccine.
