The goal is clear: according to the will of the European Union, CO2 emissions from cars are to be reduced by 100 percent in 2035.

This is in fact a ban on new vehicles with internal combustion engines.

Only pure electric cars would meet the zero emissions target.

The new federal government has not yet decided on an exact exit year.

But the goal of having around 15 million electric vehicles on the road by 2030 should implicitly end the combustion engine earlier - otherwise the number of electric cars would hardly be achievable.

Sales of electric cars have been booming for months: in November alone, their new registrations in Germany rose by 14 percent to 68,200.

The share of e-cars in the total number of registered cars reached a record level of 34.4 percent.

In the first eleven months of the year, 600,700, almost twice as many e-cars were registered as in the same period of the previous year.

The Volkswagen E-Up (1st place), the Tesla Model 3 (2nd place) and the VW ID.3 (3rd place) were particularly popular in the first half of the year.

In addition to the increasing pressure from politics and society, the so-called innovation bonus attracts customers to buy an electric car.

Anyone who currently buys a Stromer can get up to 9,000 euros from the state.

All-electric cars are also exempt from vehicle tax.

But the purchase bonus will only be available in this form until the end of 2022, then, according to the will of the three traffic light parties, until 2025 the subsidy will only be granted for cars that, among other things, reach a certain minimum range.

The premium is then to be completely abolished from 2025.

Many potential car buyers are therefore considering buying an electric car instead of a vehicle with an internal combustion engine.

For one or the other, it is also worth taking a look at the coming year.

An overview of the planned models of the German carmaker.

Volkswagen: On the way to becoming a world market leader

VW boss

Herbert Diess

(63) has ambitious goals when it comes to e-mobility: the group should be the world market leader in e-cars by 2024, and 70 percent of all new Volkswagens in Europe should be purely electric by 2030.

As the first all-electric mass-produced model, Volkswagen launched the ID.3 in November 2019.

This was followed by the ID.4 electric SUV (March 2021) and the ID.6, which is only marketed in China.

VW ID.5:

The SUV coupe is expected to hit the market in the first half of 2022 and will cost from 46,515 euros.

One battery charge should last for up to 525 kilometers.

The ID.5 is equipped with 204 PS, the battery should be able to store 77 kWh.

VW ID.5 GTX:

The sporty variant of the coupé version is available from 53,615 euros.

Audi already sells more electric cars than combustion engines

Audi boss

Markus Duesmann

(52) has already announced that he will no longer develop any new models with internal combustion engines from 2026, and the production of internal combustion engines is to be phased out by 2033. In 2019, the Ingolstadt-based company launched its first electric car, the E-Tron SUV, followed by the E-Tron Sportback SUV coupé variant in 2020. The latest electric cars from the VW premium subsidiary are the E-Tron GT, the Q4 E-Tron (also in a Sportback version), the RS E-Tron GT and the E-Tron S (Sportback). Audi already launched more electric cars than combustion engines this year.

Audi Q6 E-Tron:

In the coming year, Audi will only

launch

one new electric model.

The electric SUV should travel around 700 kilometers on one battery charge.

The model is intended as a counterpart to the fully electric Porsche Macan.

The Q6 is said to be about the size of a Q5, but as spacious as a Q7.

The sedan A6 E-Tron is not expected to hit the market until 2023.

Porsche: from zero to one hundred in 3.7 seconds

Porsche boss

Oliver Blume

(53) wants to drive more than 80 percent of his sports cars electrically by the end of this decade.

However, with the restriction that this also includes the hybrid versions.

The fully electric Porsche Taycan has been on the market for two years and is available from 83,520 euros.

Porsche Taycan GTS and GTS SportTurismo:

Two years after the launch of its first electric car, the sports car

maker is expanding

its range of

models

.

The Gran Turismo Sport is offered with an output of 440 kW (598 hp) and accelerates from zero to one hundred in 3.7 seconds.

The range should be more than 500 kilometers.

The GTS SportTurismo is a sleeker station wagon version of the GTS.

The models cost from 130,000 euros and should be in car dealerships from spring 2022.

Daimler: Ola Källenius wants to adapt to the market

Daimler boss

Ola Källenius

(52) has not yet decided to

say goodbye to the combustion engine

for Mercedes. They want to adapt to the market. After all, all market segments should be covered by electric vehicles by 2030. The Daimler brand Mercedes currently offers a large number of electric models with the sedan EQS, the SUVS EQA and EQC and the van EQV. There is an electric version of the ForTwo and ForFour from Smart.

Mercedes EQE:

The electric Mercedes E-Class is just as long as the combustion model, but has more space in the interior.

A screen measuring 1.41 meters extends almost the entire width of the dashboard.

The EQE is equipped with 215 kW and has a range of 660 kilometers with a storage capacity of 90 kWh.

Mercedes is still working on ensuring that the EQE will also master level 3 autonomous driving.

Then the driver could even temporarily take his or her hands off the wheel.

The EQE is scheduled to hit the market in mid-2022 and will primarily compete with the Tesla Model S.

The price has not yet been determined, the model is estimated to cost around 70,000 euros.

i5, i7, iX1:
