From January 1st: You can register as unemployed online - these are the requirements

Until now, anyone who becomes unemployed has to appear personally at the employment agency.

That should change from next year.

Nuremberg - Having to go to office should be over - at least in this matter: Anyone who loses their job can also report this online from January 1, 2022.

The electronic unemployment registration will be available in the BA customer portal from this date, announced the Federal Employment Agency (BA).

Up until now, a personal appearance was “absolutely necessary”.

All the steps for advice and possible financial support in the form of unemployment * money could be done by those affected "around the clock and from anywhere," it said.

Requirements are an identity card with online ID function and a smartphone on which

installed, or a card reader for ID cards.

Meanwhile, according to BA estimates, the fourth Corona * wave will not leave the labor market unscathed.

"We are now assuming increased unemployment also in the next year," said BA CEO Detlef Scheele in view of the November statistics.

In this, however, it was not yet visible how the pandemic * was affecting.

"The consequences of the current, worrying corona situation in Germany have so far hardly been seen," said Scheele.

For the future, however, he has concerns - especially when it comes to the vaccination quota in Germany.

It turns out that the chain of entanglements always begins with a low vaccination rate.

In areas with few vaccinations, the incidence is increasing, this leads to closures, livelihoods are at risk.

Scheele called on the new federal government to at least prepare a law on the general compulsory vaccination in order to be able to pass it quickly if necessary.

It should not happen that the whole country is affected again by a lack of willingness to vaccinate.

Scheele, once State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Labor *, welcomed the labor market regulations in the new coalition agreement.

The possibilities of the so-called Participation Opportunities Act are to be extended, which opens up better chances of returning to work, especially for the long-term unemployed.

The possibility of a three-year retraining is also provided for older unemployed people.
