The news has already made the rounds in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district, and it has now been officially confirmed: Prime Minister Markus Söder announced at a press conference on Tuesday that the G7 summit in 2022 will again take place at Schloss Elmau near Klais.
Schloss Elmau fulfills "all logistical and safety-related requirements for a G7 summit location", the new government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit confirmed in Berlin. This is exactly what was already demonstrated in 2015 when the heads of government of the seven leading industrial nations met on June 7th / 8th at Schloss Elmau in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district. Harmonious images from the Upper Bavarian idyll of the Isar valley had left a positive impression worldwide. Now there will be a new edition in the Isar valley from June 26th to 28th, 2022. "We are very much looking forward to the whole world coming to Bavaria," said Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder.
During the last German G7 presidency in 2015, the federal government held the summit at Schloss Elmau.
Germany will take over the chairmanship of the G7 again in 2022.
This time, Chancellor Olaf Scholz will host the important international meeting for the first time.
The group of leading western industrial nations includes Germany, the USA, Great Britain, France, Italy, Japan and Canada.
