Colorful lights, Santa Clauses and flashing reindeer: Classic Christmas houses are not so Gerd Schisnowski's case.

The Gernlindner prefers to transform his garden into an animal winter wonderland.

Gernlinden -

There is a lot to discover in Gerd Schisnowski's garden.

Penguins slide down a cliff.

Polar bears are enthroned on a mountain.

Geese and swans swim in the pond.

And next to the house, a deer family romps in the forest.

The secret star, however, is Olaf, the snowman.

Christmas house in the Fürstenfeldbruck district: it should make children's eyes light up

“The children especially love it,” explains Gerd Schisnowski.

Even in summer they would sometimes stand by his garden fence and remember exactly where the little snowman was.

That's why Olaf always has to be there when the 60-year-old transforms his garden on Graf-Toerring-Straße into an animal winter wonderland.

Everything is aligned in such a way that it can be seen clearly from the street - and only looks right from this perspective.

Because with his somewhat different Christmas house, Schisnowski wants to make children's eyes light up.

“I want to give something back to the children,” he explains.

Especially since his children and grandchildren live more than 300 kilometers away from him.

“It makes you happy when you see how the children like it.” His partner Simone also agrees: “It's cute when the little ones marvel at all of this.” And especially now in times of the Corona it is a ray of hope.

Winter wonderland in the Fürstenfeldbruck district: over 50 animal figures arranged in the garden

The Gernlindner arranged over 50 animal figures in his garden this year - carefully thought out and with great attention to detail.

“The animals are structured according to topic,” explains Schisnowski.

Somehow it feels a bit like a small zoo.

Because the animals - luminous figures made of Plexiglas with LED lighting - have also been given habitats.

Schisnowski, who is a trained stand builder, has made a cliff for the polar bears - from decorative aluminum foil, Molton represents the snow. For the deer, he has designed a small forest of fir branches and cones.

When it gets dark, the animals shine, but only in blue, white and pink.

“I don't want it colorful,” explains the 60-year-old.

Nor does he like things to move, as is the case with many Christmas houses.

But there is also a reminiscence of Christmas with him: three small packs and a sledge pulled by an elk.

“It's already Christmassy for me because I only set it up at Christmas time,” explains the Gernlindner.

The figures in front of the house are arranged differently every year.

It all started over ten years ago.

It was then that Schisnowski first saw the polar bear figures in a garden center.

I liked that, then I wanted to do it too. ”Since then, he has been collecting the animals.

The Gernlindner puts in three to three and a half days of work every year - then the small zoo is set up.

Each year the figures are arranged differently.

This year, however, he didn't really feel like it, he admits.

"But somehow it is almost expected." So he finally got up.

The animal winter wonderland was set up just in time for the first Advent - and since then it has made many children's eyes light up again.

The Christmas house

is located at Graf-Toerring-Straße 12 in Gernlinden.

The animals are illuminated daily until January 6th - from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
