A man suspected of piloting a major drug trade in Marseille, Hakim Berrebouh, who was arrested in Dubai in February, was extradited to France on Tuesday, AFP learned on Wednesday (December 15th) from the Marseille prosecutor's office, confirming information from the daily

His presentation to a judge for his indictment was underway Wednesday evening, Marseille prosecutor Dominique Laurens told AFP.

At the time of his arrest, the 40-year-old was the subject of an "
international arrest warrant issued by an investigating magistrate from the Specialized Interregional Jurisdiction (JIRS) of Marseille
", specialized in the fight against serious crime, within the framework of 'a rogatory commission opened since early 2020 for "
international drug trafficking
".
In April 2014, his brother, Mehdi Berrebouh, was killed at the age of 27 at the Kalashnikov in broad daylight on the A7 motorway in Marseille when he had just left prison.
Two rival drug baron clans
According to investigators, this murder was one of the many bloody episodes of the hatred between two
family

clans
", the Berrebouh-Tir on one side, the Remadnia on the other, concerning the supremacy of drug trafficking, mainly cannabis, in part of the northern districts of France's second largest city. In March, another suspected drug lord in France, the Franco-Algerian Moufide Bouchibi, was arrested in Dubai before being transferred to France.
Wanted for nearly ten years by the French police, Moufide Bouchibi, nicknamed "
Mouf
", was sentenced in September in Bordeaux at first instance to 16 years in prison and fines of several million euros for importing more than three tonnes of cannabis in France from Morocco.
On Wednesday, 18 years in prison were required against him during his appeal trial in Bordeaux.
The French anti-narcotics office (Ofast) has made it a priority to track down large traffickers, often based abroad, thanks in particular to an "
intelligence center
" of around thirty people.
