One of those injured in the crash of a truck smuggling migrants in southern Mexico died on Tuesday (December 14), authorities said, bringing the death toll to 56 in last week's tragedy.

The Ministry of Health of the southern state of Chiapas said in a statement that the victim succumbed to
"severe craniocerebral and thoracic trauma"
. Authorities are investigating the identity and nationality of the migrant, one of 160 who were traveling hidden and crammed into the trailer of a truck on a highway in Chiapas on December 9.
The death brings the death toll from last week's crash to 56.
The vehicle - probably speeding - transporting undocumented migrants to the north of the country overturned on the highway near Tuxtla Gutierrez, the capital of the state of Chiapas, bordering Guatemala.
Authorities managed to identify 19 of the 56 people killed in the crash, the most serious involving migrants in Mexico.

According to the health ministry, 62 other migrants are still hospitalized.
