2021-12-15T09:29:31.864Z

The increase will amount to 0.9% according to INSEE, or 14 euros gross per month, excluding any additional boost from the government.

The increase in the minimum wage on January 1 is confirmed.

INSEE announced on Wednesday that inflation in November, which serves as a reference for calculating the annual revaluation of the minimum growth wage, had risen to + 0.4% over one month, and to + 2.8% over one year.

The increase in consumer prices therefore accelerated further last month, since the increase was 2.6% in October.

Every January 1, the minimum wage is automatically adjusted according to inflation among the 20% of households with the lowest incomes, increased by half the gain in purchasing power of the average hourly wage of workers and employees.

In view of the high inflation observed in recent months, this is the first criterion that will be decisive in the increase on January 1.

But how much will it be?

At the end of November, the panel of economists consulted before each increase had put forward a range "from 0.5% to 0.6%", then the Minister of Labor Élisabeth Borne had affirmed that it would ultimately be greater than 0.6%.

Tuesday, INSEE published its final estimate, saying that the revaluation would be "

of the order of + 0.9%

".

This would mean that the minimum wage would drop from 10.48 euros gross per hour to 10.57 euros.

Per month, it would increase by 14 euros, reaching around 1,603 euros gross.

On January 1, 2021, the minimum wage increased by 0.99%, then experienced a further exceptional increase on October 1, of 2.2%.

Calculations made without any additional government boost.

The latter has not yet spoken.

The panel of economists consulted by the executive said it was opposed to this eventuality - as always since its first opinion in 2008 -, while the CGT and FO on the contrary demanded Monday a "real boost ".

The social partners will be consulted by the Ministry of Labor this Wednesday afternoon as part of the National Commission for Collective Bargaining (CNNCEFP) before a decision is taken.
