GENEVA, SANA-
The World Health Organization announced today that there is preliminary evidence that vaccines against the Corona virus may be less effective in protecting against the mutant Omicron.
Reuters quoted the organization as saying in its weekly epidemiological update that we need more data to understand the degree to which Omicron eludes immunity resulting from either receiving a vaccine or recovering from a previous infection.
The organization indicated that the percentage of the delta mutation sequences recorded in the Global Influenza Data Exchange Initiative database decreased this week compared to other worrisome mutations for the first time since the delta mutation was classified as a mutation of concern last April.
The delta mutant remains the most common, representing 99.2 percent of the approximately 880,000 sequences recorded with the Global Influenza Data Sharing Initiative through samples collected within the last 60 days.
