With the increase in global awareness of its importance and its positive impact on the climate and the environment on the one hand, and the economy on the other hand, many countries in the world that suffer from economic challenges are turning towards renewable energy sources or what has been termed “alternative energy” because it is clean and sustainable, especially with the continuous depletion of sources Conventional non-renewable energy.

Perhaps the most important feature of renewable energy, according to many specialists, is its acceptable cost and its accessibility in easier ways compared to traditional energy, which requires great capabilities and high costs, which was confirmed by the Director of International Energy for Renewable Energy, Francesco LaCamera, by saying: “Renewable energy has proven that it can be relied upon because it is affordable. It is flexible and has revealed its true value because of its great role as a practical tool in facing both climate and economic change.”

Renewable energy is not only important for its sustainability and suitability for the economies of developing countries, but also contributes to preserving the lives of societies from disease caused by pollution caused by gases emitted from energy sources based on fossil fuels, this is what Maria Neira, Director of Environment, Climate Change and Health at the World Health Organization said. He said: “The pursuit of clean and sustainable energy supplies is of paramount importance in protecting people, as it enables them to enjoy good health, especially in remote and rural areas.”

In confirmation of the above, renewable energy is now turning into a compass for a number of countries in the world. A report by the International Energy Agency two days ago revealed that the growth of the world’s ability to generate electricity from solar panels, wind turbines and other renewable technologies is on the way to accelerate in the coming years.

The agency’s report estimated that renewable energy would represent about 95 percent of the increase in the capacity to produce electricity in the world between now and the end of 2026, and that solar energy would contribute half of this increase, while it was likely that the renewable electricity capacity would rise globally by more than 60 percent from 2020 levels to more than 4800 gigawatts, which is equivalent to the total current global energy capacity of electricity generated by fossil and nuclear fuel stations combined.

For his part, Professor of Solar Economics at the Finnish University, Christian Breyer, said that the production of electricity from solar energy will grow significantly and rapidly and will strongly change the global energy system, amid experts’ expectations of an increase in the global profitability of solar energy facilities from 730 gigawatts currently to about 10,000 gigawatts until 2030 and to About 40 to 70 thousand gigawatts by 2050.

It is noteworthy that the spread of solar panels is increasing around the world to generate energy from the heat of the sun, as figures indicate that about 3 percent of the energy in the world is extracted from solar power stations, and it is expected that the percentage will reach 13 percent until 2030.
