The World Cup officials now had to decide.

Because of the grandstand and because of the cost.

Therefore, the following applies: The women's races in Garmisch-Partenkirchen will take place without spectators.

At the same time the OK announces a new advertising campaign.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen - It is not the time for all the positive news. The best example is very recent: On Wednesday afternoon, the Organizing Committee (OK) of the Ski World Cup races in Garmisch-Partenkirchen had to announce that the women's competitions on the Kandahar at the end of January will take place without a spectator. Even if the Bavarian regulation is only valid until January 12th, those responsible had to decide. "Because we have a deadline for the grandstand," emphasizes Florian Fischer, the new OC President. Now that there are no viewers, savings have to be made wherever possible. “Because the tickets are the only real source of income for us as a club,” recalls Fischer, who is also chairman of SC Garmisch.“In the end it hits the youth work and thus the children in the ski club.” Bitter. There is still a little hope for the men's races on Gudiberg at the end of February.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen: New advertising campaign for World Cup and World Cup applications

In order to be able to present something positive in these times, the OK has launched a new advertising campaign.

For the World Cup, but also for the World Cup application, which is currently still running.

In six months, at the end of May 2022, the decision will be made in Portugal as to whether Garmisch-Partenkirchen will be able to host the Alpine championship championships for the third time in 2027.

Often enough, those responsible have been criticized in recent years for having done too little in terms of visibility of such important projects in the locality. Perhaps that is also why fishermen and co. Have now pulled out all the stops: flags are already hanging in the village, and yesterday an advertising system was set up at the northern entrance to Partenkirchen that has never existed before: two circular posters five meters high. “They are a bit like two snowballs,” emphasizes Fischer. So it is clear where the journey is headed. After all, "Ga" and "Pa", the snowballs, were the popular mascots at the 2011 World Cup, which were sold as plush figures, tags or stickers. "Somehow everything fits together: We have the two districts, after eleven years we are back on Gudiberg,so on two routes, more symbolism is not really possible. "

Large advertising system instead of small billboards

The fact that the representatives of the Garmisch Ski Club are building the structure in Partenkirchen could be seen by some as a charm offensive, but there are basically very simple reasons: “The space required,” says Fischer.

These large areas do not exist in the Garmisch district.

“And in Partenkirchen we have an owner who makes his land available to us.

This is no longer a matter of course nowadays. "

The officials of the SC Garmisch want to go this extravagant way this year, because to them the small billboards of GaPa-Tourismus no longer appear to be ideal.

"I don't know whether the road users are not really aware of them," speculates Fischer.

Despite all the German bureaucracy, the negotiations about building up the B2 were not easy, "but in the end everyone, whether the municipality or the road construction authority, fully went along with it."

WM application: documents are with FIS, so far no major inquiries

With regard to bidding for the World Cup, most of the effort is currently going on behind the scenes. At the end of August, the OC submitted the application documents to the world association. So far there have been no major queries or even change requests. “We rate it positively.” Fischer emphasizes that the concept with two sports facilities without renovations or new buildings fits in perfectly with the times. A fact that those responsible for the 2022 World Cup would like to show all over the world. “That is our best calling card,” confirms Fischer. The OC will invite the members of the Council, the FIS Executive Committee, which decides on the allocation of the World Championships, to Garmisch-Partenkirchen for the races. "We don't know whether they will come, in Corona times it's not that easy."

Currently there are basically only online sessions.

Most recently, however, they saw each other live for the first time in St. Moritz at a memorial service for the deceased FIS President Gian-Franco Kaspar.

“Of course, you try to have conversations with people around you, but everything is going very well at the moment.

Above all, the cooperation with the German Ski Association is going very well, ”emphasizes Fischer.

"We now have a clear division of responsibilities." At least that is good news in the middle of the pandemic.
