98 cases of omicron mutant in India so far

Today, the Indian Ministry of Health announced the registration of ten new infections with the Omicron mutant of the Corona virus, which brings the total cases recorded in the country to 98 so far.

"New cases of the mutant were reported in the capital, bringing the total number of Omicron cases in the city to 20," Xinhua news agency quoted the local health minister in the capital, New Delhi, Satyendar Jain, as saying.

According to the latest update, Maharashtra has reported 32 cases from Omicron, followed by Delhi with 20, Rajasthan with 17, Karnataka with eight and Telangana with seven.

Gujarat and Kerala each have reported five cases while Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Chandigarh and West Bengal each have reported one case of Omicron.

India's federal health ministry officials said that of the reported cases of Omicron in the country none were with serious symptoms.

India has already ramped up testing and monitoring of all incoming international passengers, especially from vulnerable countries, in the wake of the global alert over the new strain of Covid-19.
