Covid-19: Germany classifies France and Denmark as areas at "high risk" of infection

The measure will apply from Sunday. It concerns five countries, four of which are in Europe.


Germany classified Friday, December 17 France and Denmark as areas of infections at "

high risk

" and will therefore impose on unvaccinated travelers from these countries a period of quarantine, announced the Institute for Public Health Surveillance.

From Sunday, this measure, which will also apply to travelers from Norway, Lebanon and Andorra, implies that people who have not been vaccinated or who have not already been infected with Covid-19 observe a quarantine with a possible test on the fifth day.

Germany, already affected by a significant rebound in coronavirus contaminations, must prepare for a new "

massive wave

" linked to the rapid dissemination of the Omicron variant, previously warned the Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach.

Denmark announced Friday the closure of a huge part of its cultural scene and a new restriction on nightlife in an attempt to curb the record surge in cases of Covid-19 and the new variant Omicron.

Denmark set a new all-time high on Friday with more than 11,000 cases in 24 hours, including a new high of more than 2,500 cases of the Omicron variant, according to the government.

In France, the Omicron variant "

will spread very quickly to the point of becoming dominant from the start of 2022

", Prime Minister Jean Castex said on Friday.
