Because it could be that you take stowaways home with you in your suitcase on the journey home.
Do not place suitcases on the floor in the hotel
The managing director of the German Pest Control Association, Andreas Becker, advised some time ago: When moving into a hotel room, place
your suitcase on a table with metal feet, if possible
.
In case of doubt, the animals will not get up there.
The researchers also recommend this.

Normally the
nocturnal parasites
live
in preferred hiding places that are used again and again.
So far, researchers have not been able to explain
that the
animals still end up in suitcases
.
Now one thing is certain: the animals are attracted by the smell of dirty laundry, as the team led by Hentley found out in the journal "Scientific Reports".
In order to prevent them from spreading the pests, travelers should therefore not leave dirty laundry on the floor.

In one
experiment
, the scientists placed four bags in two identical rooms each, in which they let bed bugs roam free.
Two of the bags were
clean clothes
and the other two were
dirty clothes
.
The researchers were able to regulate the temperature and the CO2 concentration in the rooms.
One of the rooms has been enriched with enough CO2 to mimic the presence of a breathing person.
The other room remained "unoccupied", i.e. free from increased CO2 values.
In addition

Bed bugs can spread very quickly
A single female can cause a real bedbug epidemic within ten weeks.
It lays one to twelve eggs per day, depending on its age, and the population is growing exponentially.
