Christiane Taubira supports "the essential" vaccination against Covid-19 after comments deemed vague

After refusing the same morning to comment on the vaccination pass during a trip to Saint-Denis, the now possible candidate

"The vaccine is our best weapon against this pandemic".

The tweet is signed Christiane Taubira and it aims to extinguish a beginning of controversy while the former Minister of Justice "is now considering" a candidacy for the presidential election.

Published this Saturday, December 18 at 6:45 p.m., the message is accompanied by a video shot in the afternoon during a visit to the vaccination center of Saint-Denis in Seine-Saint-Denis.

The now possible candidate explains that “the vaccine is the gesture that one must do for oneself and for others.

It's essential ".

Respect for our healthcare teams who protect us and save lives.

The approach clearly appears as an attempt at demining after remarks deemed convoluted made that very morning by the former Minister of Justice during his first campaign trip to the Saint-Denis Christmas market.

"The government's choice"

Asked about the executive's bill, announced the day before by Jean Castex, to transform the health pass into a vaccination pass, Christiane Taubira explained that it was "the choice of the government" and that "the Parliament will play its role" , but had declined to say whether she was for or against the device.

Words too vague for some.

"If someone has understood where she is coming from ... I must be too c ...", had tweeted the emergency manager of the Delafontaine hospital Mathias Wargon.

This is not the first time that the former minister has been asked to clarify his comments on vaccination.

Last September already, she had caused trouble by justifying her decision not to call the Guyanese to be vaccinated, explaining that she was not "in exercise" and did not have "the information" allowing her to "give instructions ".

Minister Olivier Véran had then accused him of "cowardice".

At the same period, Christiane Taubira had nevertheless announced that she was herself vaccinated and denounced the arguments of antivax as "a tissue of imbecility".

More recently, on November 30, in the program “Quotidien” on TMC, she had said “absolutely convinced that the best response to the current pandemic is vaccination.

(…)

For me, there is no shadow of a doubt ”.
