Analyst: AMLO will do whatever it takes to win his candidate 2:09
(CNN Spanish) -
The National Electoral Institute of Mexico (INE) approved this Friday the temporary suspension of the consultation to revoke the mandate due to lack of budget, as announced by the president of the organization and promoter of the suspension proposal, Lorenzo Córdova.
The revocation of the mandate is an instrument of participation, included in the latest reform of the Mexican constitution, requested by the citizens to determine the anticipated conclusion in the performance of the person holding the Presidency of the Republic, from the loss of the trust.
It is one of the measures that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has promoted.
According to Córdova, the INE does not have, at the moment, sufficient funds to carry out a process of the "breadth and quality" that is ordered by the federal law that regulates the mechanism for revocation of mandate.
The INE, added the official, has a purse of 1,503 million pesos (about US $ 71.9 million), but affirmed that resources of more than 3,830 million pesos (US $ 183.7 million) are still required.

The head of the INE also assured that the measure is extraordinary and that it is not a suspension or cancellation of the revocation of the mandate, but rather that it is proposed to postpone the consultation temporarily.
"Everything seems to indicate that the President of the Republic wants the mandate to be revoked, everything seems to indicate that the citizens do too. If so, the INE also wants it, but wants to do it according to the law," Córdova said.
The institute, clarified the official, will wait for the Supreme Court of Justice to position itself on what, in the opinion of the counselors, is a budget deficit to be able to face the day.
For his part, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, during his morning conference on Friday, described the INE's proposal to temporarily suspend the consultation as “chicanadas”.
Meanwhile, the ruling party National Regeneration Movement (Morena), of President AMLO, said it will challenge the measure before the Electoral Court.
