The Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health announced today (18th) that the 36-year-old Cathay Pacific pilot who was diagnosed earlier confirmed that he was infected with the Omicron variant virus. In the home of Cheung Hing Building in Yau Ma Tei, I also visited the nearby Wellcome Supermarket, "Sang Kee Congee and Noodle" and the mobile sampling station at MacPherson Playground.

In addition, the center also confirmed that two other patients diagnosed earlier are involved in Omicron, bringing the total number of related cases to 14 cases.

The Centre for Health Protection stated that according to the whole genome sequencing analysis conducted by the Public Health Laboratory Service Division of the Department of Health, a 36-year-old Cathay Pacific cargo pilot (the 12513th case) was confirmed to have the Omicron variant virus. The centre has arranged about 10 close contacts. And the household contacts of about 10 close contacts went to the quarantine center for isolation, and no relevant confirmed cases have been recorded for the time being.

After the patient arrived in Hong Kong, he underwent medical surveillance in accordance with relevant exemption regulations. The samples taken by his compulsory test were positive for the diagnosis. He lives in Cheung Hing Building, Yau Ma Tei. People who live in the same building or work in the building in the relevant case need to receive 6 times Mandatory testing, the dates are December 18th, 19th, 20th, 23rd, 28th, and January 4th.

The patient had been to the mobile sampling station of "Sang Kee Congee and Noodle" in Yau Ma Tei, Wellcome and MacPherson Playground in Yan On Building on the day of his illness (15th).

The two confirmed cases in Hong Kong announced yesterday (the 12514th case and the 12515th case) also confirmed that they had the Omicron variant virus. The 12514th case was a 30-year-old man who had runny nose on December 15 and traveled from Ghana via Qatar on the same day. Flight QR818 arrives in Hong Kong.

He had received two doses of Fubital vaccine in Hong Kong in June and July.

The 12515th case was a 27-year-old man who arrived in Hong Kong from the Bahamas and the United States via flight SQ007 on December 15. He started to cough and lost his sense of smell the next day. He had received two doses of Coxing vaccine in Hong Kong in May and June. The antibody was detected in Hong Kong on October 18.

Both tested positive at the airport.

Together with the above three cases, Hong Kong has so far recorded 14 cases involving Omicron.
