As part of the Wall Guard's lessons: Ministers Gantz and Bar-Lev agreed on the establishment of a Border Brigade in reserve, which would recruit discharged fighters and operate in public order missions • "A solution from which everyone benefits"

The IDF and the Israel Police will establish, for the first time, Border Police brigades in reserve

.

The decision to establish border brigades in reserve is a lesson from Operation Wall Guard and the widespread violence in some of the cities involved. In regular, which are usually stationed in Judea and Samaria, however this was done a few days after the outbreak of the events and it was clear that this was a point-by-point solution that might not suffice in the future.

After the operation, the IDF Operations Division led staff work, in cooperation with the police, in order to draw lessons for the future. Two of the lessons already learned were revealed a few weeks ago in "Israel Today": And the decision to mobilize reserve forces to secure major deputies and escort convoys, with the aim of preventing disruption of the movement of forces or attempts to damage military tools to sabotage the IDF's offensive effort.

The third decision was reached about two weeks ago between Defense Minister Bnei Gantz and Internal Security Minister Amar Bar-Lev.

As part of this, it was decided to establish a border brigade for the first time in reserve, in preparation for the next war.

To date, most border guards who have been discharged from regular service have been placed in reserve in "regular" military units, usually in light infantry and border defense.

The experience they have gained in their regular service will now also be used for the benefit of the reserve.

The new brigade will be jointly funded by the military and police.

The IDF will be responsible for recruiting and part of the training of the reserve forces in the new brigade, while the Israel Police will authorize them as border police officers in the reserve.

As part of their regular reserve service, the Border Police's reserve personnel will carry out training and ongoing operational activities in Judea and Samaria and in Jerusalem, and, if required, will be operated under the Israel Police for internal security missions;

For example, to prevent violent riots in the cities involved.

"It's a solution that everyone benefits from," a senior official said.

"The IDF will gain more skilled forces that can operate in the territories, the police will gain more skilled forces that can assist it in internal security, and the fighters will continue to do in the reserve what they did regularly."

Quick recruitment

Although the Israel Police has several Border Police companies in reserve, it is having difficulty maintaining them. Now, as part of the new decision, the Border Police will not only become a strong and regular force, but also in the reserve.

As part of the decision, the first Border Brigade in the reserve will be established as early as 2022, and the IDF plans to establish another brigade in 2023, and a third brigade thereafter.

In total, the IDF and the police want to establish three border brigades in reserve.

The intention is that these forces will be mobilized immediately upon the outbreak of the campaign and allow the police to take control of any scale of violence in the cities involved.

Border forces in the reserve will also prevent the IDF from having to send soldiers to assist the police;

The IDF feared the possibility of uniformed soldiers being required to act against civilians in public order missions, and therefore promoted the new plan.

One of the lessons learned from the walls is the need to make the moves quickly, right at the beginning of the campaign.

In any future war outline, the IDF will be required to rapidly reinforce forces at the front, which will require extensive mobilization of forces from all over the country.
