Updates on early detection of hearing loss, cases that require snail implants, and rehabilitation of people with hearing disabilities who use hearing aids. The most prominent topics discussed today by a number of specialists within the activities of the second scientific forum for audiology held by the Medical Services Department in cooperation with the Faculty of Health Sciences at Damascus University.

And participated in the forum, which was held on the amphitheater of Tishreen Military Hospital, along with a number of specialists in ear, nose and throat diseases and graduates of the Master of Rehabilitation in Audiology in Syria, Arab and foreign doctors via the Internet.

The scientific lectures during the forum, entitled (Updates in auditory and vestibular rehabilitation), dealt with indicators of hearing loss, the role of auditory training in the rehabilitation of children, the stages of therapeutic intervention, and the appropriate age for snail cultivation.

Dr. Abdul Rahman Awad, Head of the Otology Division at Tishreen Hospital, stated that the forum was an opportunity to review the latest international research and studies on audiology and put it into practice, stressing that Syria keeps pace with the latest scientific developments and snail transplants are carried out periodically.

For his part, the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Damascus University, Dr. Samer Mohsen, pointed out the importance of auditory and vestibular rehabilitation as an academic and scientific treatment that is taught in Syrian universities as an independent specialty, pointing out that last week 20 male and female students graduated with a specialization in audiology from the faculty, while more than 120 students are still studying it. At the universities of Damascus, Aleppo and Tishreen, and about 120 students majoring in speech and language at the Faculty of Health Sciences in Damascus.

Dr. Mohsen explained that the National Committee for the Early Detection of Hearing Impairment was formed and work protocols were developed for evaluation and audio survey in children, stressing the importance of this to ensure appropriate treatment and successful rehabilitation for patients.

The two doctors residing at Tishreen Aws Hospital, Ibrahim and Maryam Khalouf, said that the forum contributed to identifying the developments of snail cultivation and ways to improve the quality of life for people with hearing disabilities, while the student Maria Al-Hayek at the College of Health Sciences drew attention to the importance of information and practical presentations included in the forum and the exchange of experiences between doctors Participants to support students and help them in this specialty.

It is noteworthy that the first audiology forum was held in 2019 and stopped last year due to the Corona pandemic.
