Guatemala: they investigate the discovery of 13 people murdered in Sololá

The Guatemalan National Civil Police reported that the people were apparently killed on a highway in the village of Chiquix.

The National Civil Police of Guatemala reported that it is investigating the death of 13 people, apparently murdered on a road in the village of Chiquix, in the department of Sololá.

Among the fatalities there are 12 civilians and a member of the National Civil Police, the entity said in a statement.

"Among the deceased there are children, men and women who join the tragic death of the agent," the document detailed.

"Two more officers were injured; at the scene there is a burned-out semi truck and a patrol with bullet holes," he added.

The National Civil Police of Guatemala described the incident as "intolerable and incomprehensible fratricide."

He pointed out that the event took place on the side of Nahualá, which is a "territorial limit in the conflict they have with Santa Catarina Ixtahuacán."

The National Civil Police of Guatemala reiterated that, from the first moment after learning of the event, the entity assigned the necessary investigators to find those responsible and evaluate what measures to adopt to try to stop similar acts of violence in the future.
