Because of the rapidly spreading virus variant Omikron in Europe, the North Rhine-Westphalian Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU) believes that the federal and state governments must agree a joint timetable before Christmas.
"We need a common strategy against Omikron," said Wüst on Sunday of the German press agency.
Düsseldorf - "We are attentive to the corona developments in our European neighbors and the current information from science is extremely serious," said the CDU politician.
In the Netherlands, a neighboring country to North Rhine-Westphalia, there has been a tough lockdown since Sunday.

Politicians must honestly tell the citizens that restrictions in everyday life will also be imperative in the new year, said the NRW head of government.
“I'm sure a lot of people are expecting it too.
They rightly expect clear announcements from us and as much planning security as is possible in a pandemic, ”said Wüst.
