"Carmel" storm hits Israel: what is the chance of snow in the north? | Israel today

2021-12-20T07:00:38.070Z

Today will be the coldest day in the powerful rainstorm known as "Carmel" • Heavy snow is expected on Mount Hermon, but there is a good chance of snow in the Golan Heights at an altitude of more than 1,000 meters

The current winter system that reached the shores of Israel this morning (Monday), the storm "Carmel", is expected to be the most powerful to hit the country as of this stage.

At the same time, one of the key questions in any winter, cold and significant rainfall system is what are the chances of snow?

As for the rainy system that began today, it seems that only in the north of the country, in the mountains at an altitude of more than 1,000 meters, there are real chances of the white flakes forming.

Of course, in the northernmost place in Israel, on Mount Hermon, there is a good chance of snow throughout the day, as well as in the high northern Golan Heights.

On the other hand, with regard to the weather in the Galilee, we are sorry to disappoint the children and say that in the vast majority of places no snowflakes will be seen, at least according to the predictable indices, with the only exception being the peak of Mount Meron at the summit.

At the top of the mountain there may be a window of opportunity for snow, if the cold bubble at the top of the depression settles on the mountain as precipitation falls on it.

Unfortunately, in the rest of the country - the Galilee Mountains, Jerusalem, Hebron and the southern mountains - we will not get snow in the current winter system.
