During his tenure in Poing, Michael Wendlinger saw three pastors.

At the end of the year, the popular pastoral officer leaves the parish and takes on a new position.

Poing - In the past six years, Michael Wendlinger was the only constant in pastoral care in the Catholic parish of St. Michael Poing.

The pastoral consultant has seen three pastors: Michael Holzner, Christoph Klingan and Philipp Werner.

Holzner was transferred from the ordinariate in Poing in 2016 after almost 19 years, followed by Klingan.

He was in Poing for two years before he was appointed vicar general of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising and thus deputy to Archbishop and Cardinal Reinhard Marx.

Pastor Philipp Werner has been leading the parish of St. Michael since September 2019.

From January 1st he will be without a pastoral consultant for the time being because Michael Wendlinger is leaving Poing.

A small farewell ceremony took place as part of the divine service on the 4th Advent.

Poing: Seventh Christmas in the parish

"It's my seventh Christmas in Poing and time for change," says Michael Wendlinger in an interview with our newspaper.

The 53-year-old will switch to hospital chaplaincy on January 1st and will be a pastoral consultant in the Munich clinics in Bogenhausen and Schwabing.

The hospital pastoral care had been a long-cherished wish, says Wendlinger, and now the opportunity to change has arisen.

Michael Wendlinger, who lives in Trudering, experienced “very eventful times” in Poing, as he himself says.

The change in the pastor's position, plus the inauguration of the new parish church of Blessed Father Rupert Mayer and: "a lot of committed volunteers".

For them, Wendlinger is full of praise.

He has witnessed voluntary work himself, for example at children's services.

Focus on families and children

Wendlinger's focus in Poing was on families and children, with his calm and witty manner he was and is very popular with parents as well as children and young people.

The pastoral consultant is also available for new things, so the so-called "picnic blanket services" for families were created in cooperation with the children's service team - this enabled children's services to be celebrated in the parish garden, under the open sky and at a distance, even in the hardest Corona times will.

Amusing memory of St. Nicholas

Michael Wendlinger will remain in special memory for those children who attended a St. Nicholas service in the parish church two years ago.

The pastoral officer had disguised as Nicholas told the story of the holy bishop of Myra.

With so much passion and verve that with one turn with his coat he knocked over a chandelier that was standing on the floor.

The glass shattered, the children were frightened at first, then they laughed.

So St. Nicholas is only human - and Michael Wendlinger completely.

“It's nice if you stick with an anecdote like that,” he says with a smile.
