20-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal announced on Monday that he had tested positive for covid-19 after arriving in Spain from Abu Dhabi.
However, Nadal did not confirm the specific variant of covid-19.
The Spaniard was making an appearance at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship exhibition event in Abu Dhabi last week after recovering from injury.

It was Nadal's first tournament appearance since the Citi Open in Washington in August.
In a Twitter thread, the 35-year-old said he had tested positive for the virus after a PCR test performed upon arrival in Spain.
Nadal added that he had tested negative for COVID-19 at all times when he was in Kuwait and Abu Dhabi and that he had tested negative for the last time this Friday.

"I am having some unpleasant moments but I am confident that I will improve little by little. I am now confined to home and have informed the people who have been in contact with me of the result," he wrote.
"As a consequence of the situation, I have to have total flexibility with my schedule and I will analyze my options depending on my evolution. I will keep you informed of any decision about my future tournaments! Thank you all in advance for your support and understanding", added Nadal in your announcement that you have covid-19.
